3. GREETING  OR   SALUATITION

                THE SALUTATION SHOULD BE WRITTEN BELOW THE ADDRESS AND DATE AFTER LEAVING THE SPACE OF A LINE OR SO. THE FORM OF SALUTATION WILL VARY ACCORDING TO THE TYPE OF LETTER YOU WRITE.

4. THE BODY OF THE LETTER OR CONTENTS

                THIS IS THE MAIN AND THE MOST USEFUL PART OF THE LETTER. THIS PART SHOULD BE WRITTEN IN A SIMPLE NATURAL STYLE.  A FAMILIARWAY SHOULDBE ADOPTED IN PERSONAL LETTERS BUT A FORMAL STYLE WITH GREAT CLARITY MUST BE USED IN ALL OTHER LETTERS. 

5. LEAVE- TAKING OR SUBSCRIPTION

                 AFTER THE LETTER IS COMPLETE, WRITE THE LEAVE- TAKING PHRASE AT THE END AND PUT YOUR SIGNATURE BELOW IT.

6. THE ADDRESS ON THE ENVELOPE

                   THE ADDRESS SHOULD BE WRITTEN VERY CLEARLY.

Candidates in the examination can be asked to write a 150- 200 word letter on either type mentioned above. Let us understand both the types of letters in detail.

Informal Letter

Informal letters are also known as personal letters. Such types of letters are usually written to relatives, family, friends, or acquaintances. These letters may or may not have a concrete reason for writing. The aim of writing informal letters is to create a personal memoir. It need not adhere to any formalities or follow any set pattern.

Formal Letters

The letters that follow a certain formality and set pattern are formal letters. Such letters are precise, directly addressing the concerned issue and are kept strictly professional in nature. Formal letters are short and to the point. A variety of letters that fall within the category of formal letters are –

• Business letters
• Official letters
• Social letters
• Circular letters
• Employment letters

    It is to bring to your kind notice that the school-toilets remain dirty. They stink and we use them because there is no alternative. The taps are constantly leaking. In fact it defficult to stand there at all. I wish you could yourself see their condition.

In fact their bad condition forces many students to relieve themselves at the boundary walls and such other places. The sweepers never seem to clean them. There aredirty remarks written all around in the toilets. kindly get the toilets cleaned and painted afresh to give them a good look.
